Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein

Chris Grabenstein’s book instantly grabs you. The main character, Kyle, is playing a scavenger hunt game with his two older brothers. Kyle wins against his older brothers, but not without getting grounded.

Kyle hears from his best friend that Mr. Lemoncello, his ultimate hero, is hosting a lock-in at the new public library! Kyle has to write a really good essay to go to the lock-in, which for Kyle, is the ultimate challenge. You will probably guess from the title of the book that Kyle gets in. At the end of the lock-in, Kyle can go home or find a way out of the library, without using exits, or leave the way he came in from. If he escapes, he will become world famous.
I won’t tell you how it ends, so if you were hooked by my review, you’ll just have to read it for yourself. I would recommend this book for advanced 10 year old readers to 11 year old readers.

Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell

As we start the graphic novel, Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell, we meet a family who has apparently gone away to a new town for a day. Suddenly there is a noise. There is a monster in this town! The family runs and an old man lets them in his shelter cellar. A few minutes later, the family walks out and we are to find that, the people love their town’s monster!
After that, we meet two of our three main characters. Dr. Wilkie and orphan Timothy. They’re town’s monster is monstorly…. boring. So Dr. Wilkie goes to make Rayburn, our third main character, more monster like. Little does the Dr. know that he has a stowaway.
I won’t tell you the ending except that I recommend this book for 9 to 11 year olds. It’s a good book if you’re looking for a bit of suspense and a good 180+ page graphic novel.
