How They Choked- Review by Jordan

How They Choked
By Georgia Bragg
“If you only want to see people at their best, this book isn’t for you.” The first sentence in Georgia Bragg’s book, How they Choked: Failures, Flops, and Flaws of the Awfully Famous, definitely captivated me because this is what I’ve been telling my fellow peers, and now it’s the whole theme of this book. “Don’t go idolizing people before you know everything about them.” This book was fun, interesting, and had tons of fails in it. In my opinion, it was rated high, perhaps even higher than its sister book, How They Croaked: The Awful Ends of the Awully Famous. It had 14 fails of famous people in it. Some names you might recognize are Marco Polo, Isaac Newton, Thomas Alva Edison, and Amelia Earhart. “Real people make mistakes.” So if you love to hear the juicy failures, mistakes, flops, or flaws about people, then this book is for you. “Nobody’s perfect. Get used to it.”

Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein

Chris Grabenstein’s book instantly grabs you. The main character, Kyle, is playing a scavenger hunt game with his two older brothers. Kyle wins against his older brothers, but not without getting grounded.

Kyle hears from his best friend that Mr. Lemoncello, his ultimate hero, is hosting a lock-in at the new public library! Kyle has to write a really good essay to go to the lock-in, which for Kyle, is the ultimate challenge. You will probably guess from the title of the book that Kyle gets in. At the end of the lock-in, Kyle can go home or find a way out of the library, without using exits, or leave the way he came in from. If he escapes, he will become world famous.
I won’t tell you how it ends, so if you were hooked by my review, you’ll just have to read it for yourself. I would recommend this book for advanced 10 year old readers to 11 year old readers.
